Hi, my name is Poncho Wheels Wysocki.
Well.....it's Poncho now.
I don't know what my first name was before.
I am a chocolate/white dappled dachshund and I think when I was found on October 17th 2006, I might have been 4 or 5 years old.
We decided to split the difference and call me 3 years old and made October 17th my birthday because thats when my NEW LIFE BEGAN
Up until that October day my life story was a mystery & misery, but now things have changed for the better!! I was hit by a car, paralyzed & left for dead.
A very nice person found me dragging myself down a street and brought me to our local pound. I was covered in "road rash" and looked like I hadn't eaten in a while.
Someone at one time cut my vocal cords, so I have a funky sounding "bark".
A GREAT vet, ( now know as Uncle Dave ) came to the pound on other business and saw me. He snapped me up and took me to the set of his weekly TV show, Dr4Pets and had me on as a guest to see if anyone knew me.
Once we got back to the clinic Uncle Dave looked me over and unfortunately it seems as if I was RUN OVER at the base of my spine leaving me unable to walk.
It also left me with no feeling in my "hind end" so I don't always know when I need a potty break, and most of the time I have to wear a diaper.
All 3 of our local TV stations did a news story on me as well as our local newspaper....so I'm sorta a celebrity around here. Sadly, no one ever called looking for me, placed an ad in the paper or even hung posters about me.
Well, maybe not so sadly. That may have been my luckiest break :)
We don't know if I was a neglected baby or a research dog. All I know is I went on to a much better loving life !! The first few days I was staying at the clinic nosing around all day. That 1st day at the clinic, "Aunt Joni" came by after seeing me on Uncle Dave's show. Aunt Joni LOVES dogs & especially dachshunds. She came by the next day to see me too. Then on the 3rd day she came in with her own babies for a check up and asked Uncle Dave if I can go stay with her so I wouldn't be alone at night. I moved into Aunt Joni's that day.
I was greeted by Aunt Joni and my new "cousins" so warmly. Everyone was curious of my wheels at first but, now I'm just one of the gang !! I can even keep up with them in the yard. Aunt Joni made me a ramp so I can go in & out the back door and play chase with my cousins and friends.
Sometimes we just sit on the deck, watching the fish jump, ducks swim by and wave at the boaters as they pass the house. Because of my injuries I can be a lot of "work". That's why everyone wanted to find the PERFECT home for me.
Aunt Joni always said whoever became my new parent(s) would have to have a lot of LOVE, PATIENCE and COMPASSION. They would also have to be home a lot as I am practically a full time job myself. We were all hopeful we'd find the right person/people but, I wasn't worried because Aunt Joni said I could stay at her house as long as it took because she's wasn't letting me go to "just anyone".
After six weeks of meeting potential parents, we couldn't find anyone we thought would be a perfect fit AND the truth is, by then Aunt Joni was madly in love with me so she asked me to be her boy, so now I call Aunt Joni..... Momma !!
Between my Uncle Dave and my friends at the clinic, my new MOMMA and all my new SIBLINGS and friends, you can see I am ONE LUCKY DOG after all !!!
